The shanks are renowned for coming on out of the blue with no specific explanation then being a hard issue to fix.

A "shank" is the term given to a golf shot where you contact the ball with the very heel of the club, where the club head connects to the shaft. Making a horrible sound and rattling through the hands, these shots can go absolutely anywhere! Commonly squirting out hard, fast and low to the right (for a right hander) they catch everyone unawares.
